Chapter 24. Others

Eyebrow microblading

Since microblading involves injecting pigment into the skin, it is considered an invasive procedure that the body must metabolize over time. Although the pigment remains in the surface layer of the skin and does not enter the bloodstream, these treatments are generally not recommended while breastfeeding. If you choose to proceed, ensure you visit a reputable store and pump and discard your milk for at least 24 hours after the session.

Tattooing

Research regarding the safety of obtaining a new tattoo while breastfeeding is limited, and the effect of tiny nanoparticles in tattoo ink remains unknown. While there have been no reported adverse effects on infants whose mothers receive tattoos while nursing, the potential impact of nanoparticles in tattoo ink remains unknown. Therefore, most experts recommend waiting until the weaning process is complete before undergoing a new procedure.

If you choose to proceed, ensure that you visit a reputable store with good hygiene and safety standards.

Please note that the Hong Kong Milk Bank requires a temporary suspension of milk donations for six months following a new tattoo, body piercing, cosmetic tattoo, or acupuncture performed with non-disposable needles.
