Chapter 11. Sore or Injured Nipples

Try to initiate breastfeeding as soon as your baby shows early signs of hunger. That way, he may not suckle so hard or fast. 

Let him latch as soon as he opens his mouth to the fullest, and make sure he latches onto the areola. A proper latch should not be painful. If you feel pain, gently insert your finger into his mouth to break the suction, then try latching again. Besides, try to start breastfeeding when your baby shows early signs of hunger to ensure he does not suckle too hard or too quickly.  

Pinkish breast milk can be consumed immediately, but do not refrigerate it.
